I hope everyone had as lovely of a Christmas as I did. It was so nice and relaxing just to be home with my family and friends for four weeks. Coming home this year was a tad different than years earlier, due to the fact that my parent’s house was in the midst of a kitchen renovation. So for the first two weeks that I was home, we did not have an operating kitchen which resulted in multiple nights of takeout.. or toast. This past summer my parents purchased a beautiful craftsman house that dates back to 1905, so they have had a full project on their hands the last few months!
The holiday season for me is usually filled with social events, family parties, dinner plans, adventures uptown, and hopefully at least one trip to the Imperial Theatre. Uptown Saint John is always so beautifully decorated. My favourite decorations are of course at the City Market, seeing the city market all decorated always puts me in the Christmas spirit. The evening that I took this photograph, my mother and I were headed to the Nutcracker at the Imperial Theatre, which was lovely as per usual. My family and I the following week returned to the Imperial to see David Myles perform with Symphony New Brunswick which was absolutely incredible.
Besides spending time with my family and friends, my favourite part of the holidays realistically is to dress up! I always love picking out a few new dresses for the holidays and having the excuse to wear red lipstick more than I usually would. For Christmas Eve (and my grandmother’s birthday) I wore a black dress with silver beads throughout it and tulip sleeves from H&M. Wearing a little bit of sparkle during the holidays is a must in my books. The dress is paired with black suede heeled boots from Winners that I purchased a few years ago. These boots tend to make an appearance most Christmas’s.
Christmas day in my family usually consists of spending the day at home with my family and my grandmother. I typically try to spend as much of the day in my pyjamas as possible, eating sweets, and taking a look at the new books Santa brought me! After our Christmas dinner, my family always watches a new movie together. This year we watched the film, Battle of the Sexes staring Emma Stone and Steve Carrel. It was based on the true story of the tennis players Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. My brothers weren’t as sold with the film as I was, but I really enjoyed it!
The rest of my holiday was spent with my family and friends. Since I will not be home again for almost a year, it was really wonderful to get to spend a lot of time with my close friends! All of my friends were home for at least a period of time over the break.
Anyways, I hope that everyone else also had a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that the holiday is over and school is already in full swing. But I am looking forward to all the new adventures that are to come in 2018! I’m pretty certain it will be a fantastic year.
