Dear Readers,
For as long as I can remember Autumn (or Fall) has always been my favourite season. As a kid, I was always so excited to go back to school, wear knit sweaters, see the leaves change colour and pick out pumpkins. There is a quote by Lucy Maud Montgomery in Anne of Green Gables “I am so glad to live in a world with Octobers” and I could not agree more. Lucky for me I came back to the Maritimes at the perfect time to appreciate the beauty of Autumn.
Last week I was lucky to have the perfect Autumn day. This perfect day started at one of my favourite cafes in Rothesay, The Common’s Creperie, with soup and a sandwich. Autumn is the perfect season for soup, especially butternut squash or a harvest vegetable soup. As a kid I can remember coming inside on a Saturday afternoon with rosy cheeks from playing outside and a bowl of soup was always the perfect thing to warm me up. Other favourite food for this time of the year are desserts like pumpkin pie and apple crumble.
Trips to farmers markets to pick out pumpkins is another favourite activity of mine. I had already picked out my Thanksgiving pumpkin at Cochran’s but another trip to Kredl’s was necessary just to see all the pumpkins and gourds that replaced the flowers in the green house!
Outdoor adventures are another thing I love to do in the Autumn! Hikes are so great because the weather is not as hot as in the summer, plus the view are even more spectacular when you can see the variety of colour in the trees. This day, I went up to Sussex Bluff Trail in Sussex. The hike itself was relatively easy, but the view was incredible. The trail went through different sections of coloured leaves and furs. One section was just filled with trees that all had yellow leaves.
Besides Autumn activities Sweater Weather has always been my favourite. Partway through August I am always craving to dig out my knits. It was easier in Scotland this year, since the temperature was cooler there in August than it was in the Maritimes. This season I have been wearing lots of burgundy, beige, navy, and black! So here a few of my must have sweaters at the moment (I have the J Crew turtle neck in two colours currently on the way!!!)
Boots are another favourite of mine. As soon as I got home I dug out my Hunter Boots as I knew I would need them. My other must have boots for this season are brown leather riding boots, and LL Bean Duck Boots.
My final favourite thing about Autumn are the accessories. Hats and scarves have always been favourites of mine no matter what the season. Currently, I am really big into the Greek Sailor styled hats (like the one I am wearing in these pictures). But I don’t think there is any accessory as cosy as a big scarf around your neck !
Well these are a few of my favourite things about Autumn, and I can’t wait to enjoy them for the rest of the month! What are your favourite things about Autumn?!
