Dear Readers,
I have a few busy weeks with work, however this past weekend I gave myself a four day weekend (if you follow me on Instagram I am sure you noticed that). Lucky for me I was able to re-unite with three of my best friends from Glasgow for a girls weekend in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Halifax is such a great weekend destination in the Maritimes. Coming from Saint John it is only around four hours to drive to Halifax and on a beautiful day the drive is SO easy. I have been driving between Halifax and Saint John for my entire life. Having grown up in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia and having both of my parents’ families live in Saint John it is a drive I have always been making, so the four hours totally flies by for me.
We were really lucky that the weather was BEAUTIFUL Thursday and Friday so we were able to spend a lot of time out doors on the Halifax boardwalk. From sitting at a patio for a few hours I even managed to get a sun burn!!
Besides checking out the boardwalk we had a few stops over the weekend checking out a few great restaurants and bars in downtown Halifax. Chloe lives in the best location, just off the boardwalk, so we were able to walk everywhere we went!
Restaurants & Bars
- Ristorante Amano
- Obladee
- Durty Nelly’s
- Black Sheep
- Pickford & Black
- The Maxwell’s Plume(They have 60 beer on tap here!!)
From Halifax there are so many great day trips you can take. We decided to go spend Saturday afternoon in the South Shore. I am sure some of you know that I was actually born in Nova Scotia and lived in Mahone Bay until 2002, so Mahone Bay has always been a really special place for me. Despite the weather not being great, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg were still just as a beautiful as ever. There is just such a unique charm to both of these towns. The girls remarked that Mahone Bay felt like a Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls! If you have never been to the South Shore I 100% recommend, it is the perfect destination for a weekend get away.
After running around on the Lunenburg pier we headed over to the Grand Banker for some sea food! I have so many memories as a child sitting in this restaurant eating mussels and nachos with my family, so it was really nice to take two of my best friends there.
Well all in all I had a fantastic mini vacation to Halifax. Living in Scotland I had such an incredible year but my favourite part of Glasgow was definitely these girls which of course made this trip to Halifax even more special than any before! I can’t wait to see where we will all meet up together next!
Loved reading this Laura. Halifax is near and dear to my heart ❤️I love the life that you are leading. So happy for you.
