Dear Readers,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone spent their weekend surrounded by family, friends, and good food. Last years Thanksgiving post I wrote,”fingers crossed I will be around for the next Thanksgiving too,” and lucky enough for me I was!!! Last year was the first time since 2013 I had been home for Thanksgiving. In 2014 I was in Chester (Nova Scotia), 2015 Lund (Sweden), 2016 St. Johns (NFLD) and 2017 Glasgow (Scotland). I enjoyed spending the holiday in different locations, however, my favourite location for Thanksgiving is at home in New Brunswick.
On Friday, my friend Madison and I went on a little adventure to the top of Spyglass in Rothesay. I always love going up to Spyglass, but walking the trails during the fall is the ultimate time to do it, because of the colours of the leaves of course. The view from the top of the hill in the fall is so spectacular.
Sunday afternoon we headed up to our family cottage, just like Thanksgiving last year. Our family’s cottage, titled “Poppy’s Reach” is our family cottage located on Long Reach on the Kingston Peninsula. It’s usually a quick jont over to the cottage, but yesterday it took a little longer than usual, as the line up for the ferry was insane (plus only one ferry was operating), it took us over an hour to get there. However, the wait was worth it.
The river was so beautiful yesterday. The water was so still and lined with the beautiful colours of the leaves. There were a few dogs there, and they were all loving the water.
It has always been a tradition to carve pumpkins on Thanksgiving at the cottage, and I must say over the years we have become quite good at it. Between the cousins we always have a variety of pumpkin designs. No two pumpkins are ever the same. I usually look up an idea before hand, so I know what shape of a pumpkin to look for. This year I made an owl, so I was on the hunt for a tall narrow pumpkin!
Thanksgiving has always been my favourite holiday. I love the simplicity of spending time with my family, eating great food, and enjoying the fall activities. Plus, it is honestly the most beautiful time of the year!
Did your father do the pumpkin carving of the toilet??!!! Lol Looks beautiful there Laura. We are all so blessed. Happy Thanksgiving!
